Wedding Dilemma: Super Bowl

We all know it can take several months, or even years to plan your perfect dream wedding. Just imagine you spend all this time to make your day incredible only to find out it conflicts with the antithesis of all things chic and elegant: The Super Bowl. Even worse, your team is playing. This is the dilemma facing many couples in New England.

Do you embrace it or try to ignore it all together?
Many brides would say no to the flat screen being brought into the reception and we agree. It's your night to shine. However, the truth is the Super Bowl is one of the biggest sports events of the year and people will want to keep up on scores and plays. Not to mention the commercials and half time show.

Even if you're not a football fan, we say go with it. Why not hand out small football radios for guests to keep up on the score. Have the band announce the score and highlights periodically - trust us guests are going to be asking anyway.

As an ultimate take away, work with someone to tape the entire game and download to a USB with your logo for guests to take home. Not only will they be able to watch the game, but they'll remember the amazing wedding.

Is the thought of sharing your wedding day with the super bowl your worst nightmare? The simple
solution is to not book any Sunday in February. Problem solved.

Super Bowl XLVI Party Ideas

Now that our favorite team, the New England Patriots, will be playing in this year's Super Bowl we could not be more excited to plan a party for it. Here are some ideas that we think will make your event as amazing as possible, even if your team doesn't take home the top prize.

Don't go crazy with beverage options. As we all know drinking beer while watching football is one of the oldest traditions and oftentimes it is best not to change an old tradition. We do have a few suggestions on how to elaborate on this. Having a wide selection of different brews is definitely a good idea, people love to have many options and try all different kinda throughout the game. Also, Tarritos are a fun and innovative way for you to enjoy your favorite game day beverage. A Tarrito is a beer lollipop, not only a delicious alternative to drinking beer out of a bottle or stein, it is also a fabulous novelty that all your guests are sure to enjoy. Lastly, do not forget football shaped ice cubes for all your guests who prefer a different drink besides beer.

Food is another Super Bowl Party aspect that can be kept at the basic expectations. Wings, pizza and burgers are football game staples that we suggest you serve at your party. We personally LOVE the idea of a Brady Burger. Serve sliders with pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo and garnished with Tom Brady's favorite food, onion rings. For other food choices line trays and plates with astroturf to resemble a stadium field. As for dessert, you can make delicious beer inspired cupcakes that will be sure to please. Decor for your Super Bowl Party is a facet that you can have some major fun with. Of course there is the color scheme which is very important as it shows which team you are rooting for. In this case the decision is easy, as both the Giants and the Patriots don red, white and blue uniforms. Consider making VIP All Access lanyards that resemble that given at an actual game, this is such a fun idea and a great party favor! You can also try to create a a fabulous entrance for all your guests that looks and feels just like a field tunnel that all the players go through. Finally you could create a Wii Super Bowl Arena with Madden Football playing during the game breaks.

Golden Globe Trends

Last night's Golden Globes was a fabulous event and we LOVED watching the live red carpet show to see all the amazing new trends! Here are some of the trends we noticed the celebrities are doing that we find stunning.

Blush Town Gowns:
We have been loving the trend of blush tones from everything to linens and decor to wedding gowns, so we were elated to see some beautiful ladies strutting in nude and blush tones. Jessica Biel shined in an antique inspired long sleeve gown that would be perfection on any winter bride, while Charlize Theron looked gorgeous in a plunging peek-a-boo frock.

Two Tone Dresses:
With all the color options people have in choosing a dress it is no wonder that two tone gowns are becoming more present on the red carpet. We love this idea and it could be a great way to work in your color pallette on your brides maids dresses or to have different tones for each dress. Angelina Jolie opted for a pale pink gown with a pop of crimson that looked great next to her long time husband Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman wore a pink Lanvin gown with a similar crimson trim.

Yellow, Yellow, Yellow:
Every shade of yellow from canary to gold was represented on the red carpet last evening, which we love! We are hoping that yellow becomes a signature color in many weddings in the coming spring. Maria Menounos and Paula Patton looked smart in bright tones of yellow while Missi Pyle and Diana Lane looked radiant in gold.

Scruff:
The men, who are often forgotten next to their beautiful dates, were rocking the scruffy look. Leonardo Dicaprio, Brad Pitt and Rob Lowe all looked dapper with their unconventional scruff. We could be seeing this trend on more and more grooms at their weddings... if their brides will allow it.

We just discovered our new favorite website: Pinterest. This is an amazing social media outlet where anyone can 'pin' their favorite pictures and ideas onto a style board. We love this when planning our events and for putting together different visions. We think this website is especially helpful for brides to-be during the planning process. Not only can you organize all your thoughts onto one simple website, you can look at other 'pinners' ideas and follow their styleboards to get even more inspiration.

Fabulous Fall Wedding

In early October, Chatham Bars Inn hosted a wedding to remember with a modern take on a nautical theme. Feathers were the main accent piece as they appeared on both the invitation and the gorgeous escort cards created by Inviting Company. The couple exchanged vows on the sand overlooking the ocean on a stunning cloudless day with music provided by Bruce Abbott Music. The reception was filled with a pale orange and navy motif and complete with beachy purple and green florals designed by Winston Flowers. Guests sipped on fresh mojitos and Cape Cod inspired margaritas while dancing to the incredible music of Beantown Band. We loved working with this couple and could not happier or more proud of the wedding!

Ring in 2012 in Style

When it comes to New Years Eve parties, nothing can be more stressful. There is always so much pressure to host a flawless event and the thought of starting a new year on a bad note is terrifying to most people. Here are some tips from SD Events to help you ring in 2012 in style:

Innovative Decor. Playing with New Years themes can be a difficult task. We suggest using a clock motif throughout all your decor choices for your party. Try plastic clocks in any colors that fit your theme as a charger for your dinner table. Using clear glass plates on top would really showcase the wonderful design element. For a more understated version of this idea, try watch centerpieces. Mix in your favorite watches with gorgeous florals for a unique and timeless centerpiece.
Midnight Snack. New Years Parties are infamous for going late into the New Year. Even people who never stay out late will make an exception for an unforgettable night. Try the new trend of a late night menu at your event. Instead of stuffy hors d'oeuvres, opt for the classics, pigs in a blanket and delicious sliders with various condiments. Your stomach, and your guests will be thanking you for the menu to remember.
Start A New Tradition. In China children are given red envelopes that are filled with money on the New Year. Try something like this at your event. Instead of filling the envelopes with cash, fill them with chocolate or little candies. These envelopes can typically be bought at a Chinese convenience store. You could also use these beautiful red envelopes as escort cards! In Russia, New Years is one of the most important holidays of the year. Instead of resolutions, its a Russian tradition to make a wish on New Years Eve. This wish is written down on a piece of paper and burned on a candle. The ashes are then mixed in a glass of champagne and sipped throughout the night. Not only is this a fun, unique idea to try, it could also serve as your party's signature drink.

While in the midst of Channukah and Christmas fast approaching SD Events would like to wish all of you a very happy holiday season and an eventful and prosperous 2012. Here are some ideas to make your holiday celebrations absoulutely fabulous and an event to remember.

Signature cocktails are always a great idea no matter what occasion you are hosting. Try Rudolph's Bellini, a simple flute of champagne with a red maraschino cherry dropped in for garnish. All of us at SD are trying this one at our holiday parties.

As for a New Years parties we recommend having a new twist on the New Year's Resolutions that no one ever keeps. Have all of your guests write down a resolution they have had in the past and never followed through with and then throw them in the fireplace. This will be a fun activity as well as a good laugh to share with all your guests.

No matter what you are planning, remember the season is about family and friends so relax and enjoy yourself!

Gorgeous Cape Wedding

On an unseasonably warm weekend in early October, SD Events coordinated a beautiful wedding at The Chatham Bars Inn on the Cape. The bride and groom could not have asked for a more beautiful day to begin their new like together as Mr. and Mrs. Guests were given the most amazing backdrop to watch as the couple exchanged vows. There was not a cloud in the sky and the sea breeze coming in from the Atlantic kept everyone comfortable and able to fully enjoy the ceremony. The bride chose a gorgeous white gown complete with a simple train that looked gorgeous and perfect for the beach wedding, while the bridesmaids wore ocean blue dresses that mimicked the already stunning background.

Following the ceremony the bride and groom took a stroll through the dunes and onto the beach for some more scenic photos. David Tucker Photography always takes gorgeous pictures and makes the couple feel at ease on such an eventful and busy day. Once the new couple was announced they were able to enjoy the party and the unbelievable decor. The color palette was clean and simple yet very elegant. White tulip and rose centerpieces, designed by Lilacs Floral Design, atop crisp white linens and china allowed the impeccable sunset over the ocean to shine through as the ultimate statement piece.

We love weddings at Chatham Bars Inn, not only for the incredible staff but for the beauty that the mere venue has to offer!

Giving Back: The Italian Home for Children

Here at SD Events we love to support local charities that are doing everything they can to give back to the community and at-risk populations. The Italian Home for Children, in Jamaica Plain caught our eye because of the amazing work they do for children in the Boston area. Since 1919 The Italian Home has been helping children ages 4-14 who suffer from mental instabilities and issues that have been brought on by awful experiences in their personal lives, be it at school, at home or in the community in which they were raised. It offers troubled youth individual therapy as well as academic education in order to achieve their mission of assisting children with any guidance or nurturing they may need. Without such an incredible place such as this, many of these children would be left hoping for the framework of a better life that The Italian Home has provided for many generations of children.

Every year the Italian Home hosts The City Lights Gala an incredible event that supports the children. Last Year's Gala, held at the Intercontinental in Boston, had over 500 guests in attendance and raised $350,000 for the children who rely on The Italian Home. We are looking forward to the 2012 City Lights Gala - it is sure to be another fantastic event.

When you think of an elegant wedding the first thing that comes to mind is not children, but let's face it not inviting children can be tricky and sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. Luckily there are new trends that will keep the kids at your wedding occupied and your event as chic as you envisioned.

Many weddings have been creating kids rooms that can be separate from the main celebration. Instead of beautiful orchids and tall candles at centerpieces, think floral inspired candy sculptures in your color scheme for the kids to enjoy. Instead of a band playing all the hits from before the kids were even born you could have a game room filled with pin ball, Foosball and more. Or consider an arts and crafts table with crayons and markers, anything that will not stain, the last thing you need on your wedding is an extra bill because your nephew spilled oil paint on the 100 year old oriental rug. Not only will the children stay busy but think of the adorable artwork they will produce that you could put in a scrapbook you can cherish forever.

We all know how picky children can be so a separate menu for them is an absolute must. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Split

After a mere 72 days and only weeks after we all watched Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries get married, the two are filing for divorce. The rumor mill has been spreading that the two were unhappy in the new marriage and now it is official. TMZ reported that the nuptials cost 10 million dollars, meaning that up until today each day of their brief marriage has cost almost 140,000 dollars.

Although it is a sad day in the reality television world, we cannot say we are surprised by this split. At least she lasted longer than Britney Spears!

Was it a publicity stunt or did they rush into marriage after only dating for 6 months?

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

The SD team just got back from a fabulous tour at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. We were all blown away by the space to say the very least. Kim Rzemien, the rentals and events manager gave us the most incredible inside look into the classic museum as well as the new building which will be available for events starting in February 2012. If you have not had the pleasure of visiting this museum it is an absolute must. The venetian inspired courtyard in the original building is simply breathtaking, pictures cannot do it justice. While the courtyard is enclosed, it still feels as if you are in an outside garden. The center of the courtyard displays a gorgeous mosaic dating back to the the second century. Surrounding the courtyard are hallways covered in Mexican tiles and John Singer Sargent's 'El Jaleo' encompasses an entire wall.

A stroll from the original building to the new building takes you through a glass tunnel with gardens on either side. The new building provides an elegant contrast to the palazzo style building next door. The building has an entirely glass exterior and interior which provides guests with the unique perspective to see all throughout the space and the outdoors. There are many rooms that guests can mill about during what Kim called a "roaming cocktail hour". Between the two buildings the museum can accommodate 425 guests for an event such as this.

We absolutely LOVED the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, we will be going soon to browse the incredible galleries and hope to plan an event there soon!

'Going Green' has recently become a movement that at times can stray away from the actual intention of saving the Earth and masquerade itself as the new trendy thing to do. With this said we LOVE the idea of incorporating eco-friendly facets into your big wedding. Not only will you be helping the environment, but cutting costs here and there can save you a fortune in the long run. Here are some ideas to save the planet and your wallet:

Go Local-
This has been something may environmental activists have been preaching for people to do on a daily basis, so why not for a wedding? Instead of using out of season ingredients or exotic flowers from far away places try and use local and organic foods. Not only can it be just as delicious but going local can serve as an homage to the area in which you are being wed. Some couples have chosen farms as a venue have used all items from the menu to the centerpieces from the farm! What a great, green idea!

Change up old traditions-
In lieu of cards which can be very wasteful in terms of all the paper and ink it takes to create them, ask guests to grow and bring their own flowers. Not only will you be reducing your carbon footprint, but you can plant the flowers at your home after the ceremony and be reminded of the amazing family and friends you have.

Invitations-
E-mail invites may seem like the only green way to announce your nuptials but fear not, there is a much more traditional and elegant way to send invitations without compromising the environment or you style. Maddie's Bat Mitzvah

Maddie was in a New York state of mind while planning her Bat Mitzvah reception. Guests were ushered into "Maddie's Manhattan Montage" which combined the sophistication of old New York with all the classic details representative of a young teen's party in a black and fuchsia motif.
The decor components came together to create Maddie's perfect day. Tall glowing cylinders were filled with flickering beams to create centerpieces reminiscent of iconic buildings in the New York City skyline, with a girlish twist. A V.I.P. lounge buzzed like Times Square while guests sipped on the Maddie-Tini, a ginger ale mocktail with a shot of cherry or sweet blue raspberry flavor.

All in all Maddie's party was an event fit for a Manhattan princess and we were so happy to help her plan it!

Weiner Bar Mitzvah

When we found out one of our favorite wedding professionals, Mara Weiner of Allure Invitations, was preparing for her son, Ben's Bar Mitzvah we could not have been more excited to be apart of this big day. Ben's closest family and friends celebrated at Hotel Marlow in Cambridge, which served as a perfect backdrop for the basketball themed soiree.

The details of this event is what made it truly unforgettable. The place cards, designed by SD Events, were inspired by basketball game tickets that featured Ben's face on each card. Mara herself designed the gorgeous invitations that mixed tradition with Ben's favorite sport. The front was a classic invite in slate gray while the back displayed the texture of an authentic basketball. Finally the Ben-ito was featured as a signature mocktail any thirteen year old would have swooned over.

Instead of cherishing his first gift for himself he used it to personally donate several basketballs to the Jewish Big Brother Big Sister Program. Congratulations Ben! We could not have been more honored to be involved in your special day!

Traditions Up for Debate

The words wedding and tradition go hand in hand… but not all brides are sold on being traditional. Here are a few traditions we have seen recently up for debate. We added some of our own thoughts…but what do you think? After all, you’re the bride… you make the rules.

1. The man proposes – Unless you want to continue to drop hints to no avail just propose yourself. No one said there was anything wrong with a “mangagement ring”.

2. Ring must be diamond- Over 80 percent of married woman wear a diamond engagement ring... but that does not mean you have to!

3. Only one maid of honor- Oh just have two… planning a wedding is enough work without having to referee a cat fight between your sister and your best friend.

4. Registering – We find the only tradition regarding a registry that cannot be forgotten is that there should not be any mention of gifts on a wedding invitation.

5. Bridal Showers- Traditionally bridal showers are an event just for women, but wedding traditions should be able to evolve with the trends of the modern world. Be unconventional and host a Jack and Jill bridal shower so that guests of both genders can attend.

6. Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties- What could be wrong about anything that ends in the word party?... but then again we all saw the Hangover.

7. Bride’s parents foot the bill- In today’s tough economic times and the increasingly expensive prices for weddings it seems more adequate to have multiple people financially contribute to a wedding… perhaps even the bride and groom themselves.

8. Gender-Specific attendants- Not sure what to do with your gay best friend? Bridesmen anyone? Shake it up…whose judging.

9. Matching bridesmaid dresses- Thanks to Sex and the City (where all good trends are born) mixing things up for your bridesmaids in both color and silhouette is a trend we can’t help but encourage.

10. A veil- While sporting a veil is almost as sacred a tradition as wearing white, some may rather showcase their hair and makeup they had professionally done.

11. Flower girls/ring bearers- This can be an adorable way to include some younger family members or friends, but having to babysit on your special day is definitely not an ideal situation.

12. Dad “gives you away”- If your father is a guest at your wedding, not having him walk you down the aisle may be the ultimate snub. If he won’t be there, be creative! We’ve seen it all from the bride’s siblings or children giving them away, or even walking down the aisle by yourself.

13. Traditional vows- Reciting traditional vows can take a lot of stress off a soon to be married couple, but personalized vows can be a sweet alternative and a lot more memorable.

14. Rice shower- While the origin of throwing rice at a newly married couple is intended to represent longevity and prosperity, being pelted with tiny bits of grain may not be how you always envisioned your wedding day.

15. Receiving line- This could be quite a nuisance to orchestrate, but may be the only feasible way to share a moment with each and every guest invited to your wedding.

16. First dance- As long as the song is not a cliché, the first dance is a tradition we would like to see stick around for many weddings to come.

17. Bouquet toss- To toss or not to toss? Some single women might look at this tradition as a blow to their ego, while others will not read so much into it and allow themselves to enjoy the thrill of competition.

18. Garter toss- Let’s be honest, the garter toss can be down right awkward. Feel free to dump this odd tradition.

19. Funny speeches- All in good fun or all too personal? We don’t know if Nana needs to know about that one time in college when…..

20. Feed each other cake- Cute until it ends up all over your face…You paid for that make up didn’t you?

Wedding Trend: Donate, Donate, Donate!

For the critics out there who claim weddings are a frivolous waste of money, well we couldn’t disagree more… but we understand none the less. Helping brides or better yet father’s of the bride, sleep a little better at night is the trend of donating the wedding day’s excess food, flowers, and formal wear to local charities. With just a little extra planning and our help, couples are cutting down on wedding waste to help others. Local food rescue programs pick up and deliver unused food to near by homeless shelters. As for the flowers, a lot of work goes into those perfectly quaffed center pieces, so we love when their beauty is optimized on. Couples can donate centerpieces and flowers to retirement homes and assisted living centers. Also bridesmaid dresses and groomsman tuxedos, as long as they are only slightly worn, can be donated to nonprofit organizations that provide formal wear to low income high schools.

Recently SD Events partnered with Feeding Our Neighbors food pickup and Ambrosia Catering to help donate unused food from a party hosted by Ernie Boch JR. Boston Rescue Mission will help feed over 200 people with this left over food alone.

It's Friday and there will be many weddings this weekend so before you take that walk down the aisle, here are some tips for keeping your cool...even in a heatwave!

1. Be sure to get a good night sleep. You don’t want to be tired on your wedding day. You have a lot of celebrating to do.

2. Eat a nutritious breakfast. It will provide a wonderful start to your wedding day, but make sure you are still eating throughout the day. Your body needs to have a good amount of nutrition.

3. Set aside time to be by yourself, even if for just 5 minutes. You need to just go in a separate room were no one else is in and sit down and relax for a few minutes.

4. Finally let go! Don’t worry about the details. There are other people around you who are willing to help out.

5. Play that one song that gets you in a good mood and relaxed -play it while you are getting ready. Laughing and having a good time with your girlfriends will create less stress for you.

6. Have ONE glass of champagne. It’s your wedding day and you should celebrate before you walk down that aisle. One glass won’t do any harm, but make sure it’s only one.

7. Don’t wear a watch. There is no need for you to know the time. People will inform you that it is almost time for the ceremony.

8. Turn off your cell phone. No one needs to contact you and if they do, they can speak to your maid of honor.

9. Sneak away somewhere together during the reception where you can watch everyone. You two just got married it’s the next chapter in your life, so just soak in the wonderful moments.

10. Smile! The big day is finally here, you’re getting MARRIED to your best friend and the love of your life. Feel that rush of excitement when you wake up that morning.

Though none of our clients fall into this category, we have heard the term Bridezilla used frequently. Always used to affectionately refer to a bride stressed from wedding planning. I ask you, who wouldn't get a little stressed trying to plan the party of their life for 100, 200 or more!

Well, now it's no longer about the bride. Grooms are stealing the limelight and the term Groomzilla is growing like wild fire! Why is this happening? Well, we've seen more and more grooms take an active role in the planning process. They actually care about flowers and what color the linens will be and asking questions like "is the fabric bengaline or taffeta?" We are shocked and impressed that they would know the difference!

Hence, with the increased involvement they have urned the right of passage and the term Groomzilla has emerged. Check out this great segment Good Morning America did on Groomzillas.

Five Easy 4th of July Entertaining Tips

We know how stressful it can be when your setting up a party in the middle of the summer. We have put together some easy tips for entertaining for the upcoming 4^th of July celebrations this weekend. All of our tips are easy to do and cost close to nothing! Use these tips to have your patriotic party sparkle!

Centerpieces

Create easy homemade centerpieces! Take mason jars and fill them up with red white and blue candies and stick your mini American flags in the candy. The mason jars give off a nostalgic, country feel and the candy makes it cute! Some candy the would work perfect for this would be red Fireballs, white mints and blue gumballs. Another option for a homemade centerpiece is to use different size glass jars to create fun centerpiece without flowers. Take out those old Christmas ornaments that you don’t use anymore and spray paint them red, white and blue. Fill the jars with the balls and put the lid on the jar. This is one of the easiest way to create a fun centerpiece without spending an arm and a leg on fresh flowers.

Sweet Treats

Create a red, white and blue dessert buffet! Frost an American birthday cake white and top it with a mixture of fresh blueberries and strawberries. Instead of candles use sparklers, just be sure to not have anything flammable on your cake!

Burger Bar

Have a burger bar set-up for your barbeque. You can cook different kinds of burgers like beef, chicken, turkey or salmon burgers and set-up all different sides. This is perfect for summer entertaining because you can already have all the sides ready and wrapped in the refrigerator and take them out when the burgers are ready. Be creative with this and have other toppings than your average lettuce, tomatoes and pickles! Some toppings we would suggest are avocado, sautéed mushrooms, turkey bacon, cherry and banana peppers, pepperjack cheese, crumbled gorgonzola cheese, spinach, and chipotle mayo just to name a few. Party go-ers always like being able to have their own input on their food. This would be a huge hit and an easy change to the traditional hamburger and hotdog cookout.

Homemade Fruit Vodka

Make your own vodka! A few days before the party cut up strawberries and blueberries. Get one of the glass beverage dispensers and fill one with strawberries and one with blueberries. Fill the containers with plain vodka or flavored vodka. Soak the fruit for at least a full day before the party. Serve your homemade fruit infused vodka with soda water and a fresh strawberry and blueberry garnish on an American flag toothpick! All of your guests will love your patriotic cocktail!

Festive Buffet Table

Dress up your buffet table with wrapping paper! Instead of just putting serving platters down on the table put them on festive risers! Get red, white, blue or any patriotic wrapping paper you can find and wrap sturdy boxes. Place them on the table and place your serving platters on top of the boxes. It creates such a dramatic appeal to the table with costing close to nothing. It will look like you had a professional party designer set-up your buffet table!

Check out some of the pictures from a recent engagement party at Towne Stove and Spirits. The restaurant has a spectacular private event room with floor to ceiling windows looking over Boylston Street. It was perfect for the client's guests that were coming from all over! We loved working with the space at Towne seeing as the room already has such a funky vibe. The red leather chairs, sparkling window treatments and out-of-the-ordinary scientific beaker water glasses all played a big roll in the decor of the party. We glamorized the typical traditional rose centerpieces by adding sexy black feathers! When guests first entered the room they were greeted with lollipop escort cards. The table was topped with a lavish ostrich feather centerpiece that was sure to catch everyone's attention! Last but not least, what would a fun engagement party be without a fun candy bar? To fit the black and red theme we had wax lips and wax mustaches which created quite the photo opportunity! Our clients were so excited and cannot wait to see what we have in store for their upcoming wedding!

Hot Summer Wedding Trends For 2011

Summer is here and we've seen a lot of fun and fabulous trends starting to emerge!

Trend 1: Color Theme

When people think of summer they think of bright colors, such as orange, pink, teal, and purple. Make sure you aren’t doing too many colors because then your wedding day may look like a carnival. You want to stick with no more than two primary colors. For example you can do a natural color with a bright pink which will make the pink pop.

Trend 2: Personalized Theme

Is there a special memory you'd like to incorporate into the wedding? For example, maybe on your first date you went apple picking. To incorporate the special memory, give apple seeds as favors or have your actual wedding at an apple orchard.

Trend 3: Beyond Wedding Cakes

Why do that boring old white wedding cake? Instead of a cake do a tower of cupcakes or petite desserts. Dessert bars are all the rage - cookie bar, ice cream sundae bar or pie bar - your guests will love the variety. Add a candy bar and you've got all areas covered. Don't forget the goody bags so guests can take some home!

It's all about color, so why not the shoes? Add a little color and sparkle that gives a fun, unexpected element.

Party season is here as we gear up for Memorial Day Weekend! We've already discussed how to add some zest, so now it's on to the important stuff: food and drinks! Ultimately, this is what your guests will remember. We all have been to those summer parties where the food is subpar and you leave hungry and raid your fridge when you get home. Here are some tips so you aren't "that" party.

First, mix up some fun cocktails and always have plenty of beer and wine chilling in the coolers. Here are two of our favorite recipes of the summer.

Cucumber Martini

1/4 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 lime, cut into wedges
Chile-lime powder (recommended: Tajin, or salt)
2 cucumbers, peeled, thinly sliced
4 cups water
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1/4 cup vodka

Acapulco Cliff Hanger

1 cup watermelon chunks, pureed in the blender and strained (makes about 1/3 cup)
2 ounces light tequila
1 ounce lemon simple syrup
1 ounce lime juice
1 ounce Cointreau

Kid's Summer Birthday Bash!

Having a Summer birthday is always so cool to kids because you have so many options for cool birthday parties other than the typical movie theater pizza party or local 'fun zone' party. There are so many fun things you can do for your child's birthday in the summer. You can take all the kids to the park for a picnic and nature scavenger hunt, turn your backyard into a carnival, or a really fun themed pool party. Whether you play musical chairs to the Beach Boys or do the limbo under a surfboard, you can make up fun activities with any theme. Always use cupcakes and cookies to help bring out your theme. A Patriotic and Festive Fourth of July

We know there will be huge celebrations this year in honor of our nation's birthday. Wish for some nice weather, enjoy the time off from work and gather friends and family together. You can always find the standard July 4th decor at the party stores, but we've also found some creative ideas here as well! To really impress your guests make a signature red, white or blue drink at your party. You can make an American Flag shot, blueberry martinis, or a simple Cape Codder or even a Firecracker! Garnish your drinks with lemons and limes on American flag toothpicks. Since Fourth of July parties are cocktail style, you don't need to focus on table decor. Instead, incorporate fun things to your buffet table by getting a navy blue table cloth with stars all over it or wrap your plastic silverware in red napkins and tie them with a navy blue and white stripped grosgrain ribbon. Always use the abundance of fresh flowers to your advantage to dress up all of your cocktail tables and dinner tables.

Caribbean Backyard Cookout

Right around the middle of July you start to get sick of the same old hamburger, hot dog and potato salad type of barbeque. Instead of serving the same old faire, opt for a Caribbean Cookout! Top your tables with shaded hurricane lamps with candles and bright colored Orchids and Birds of Paradise flowers. Use palm foliage anywhere it fits. If you get larger pieces you can lay them out as place mats or a table runner. If you can only find smaller pieces you can use them to ring around your napkins, tie around pillar candles or just to garnish your serving platters. Use lots of fresh fruit whether you add it to dishes as a garnish or if you add it to meat kabobs or tropical salads. Go a step furhther and bing in a steel drum band to continue the tropical, care free vibe. Make sure to bring out the blender for lots of frozen Pina Coladas and Strawberry Daquiris! Butterflies, fish and birds are all used in typical Caribbean decor and can be used to look really cute and not tacky! You can find a string of plastic tropical fish around your table or stick butterflies throughout your floral arrangements.

Tasha Bracken made her second appearance on the NECN Quiz Show with Jim Braude and was victorious against her opponent Frank Santo. Frank is a well-known restaurant owner of two local hot spots, Isabella in Dedham and The Local right down the street from us in West Newton.

Jim Braude calls the show "A Test of Tasteless Tidbits and Trivia From the Tabloid Trashey" yet both Tasha and Frank were on fire with their answers. They must have been playing close attention to TMZ last week some time between the Royal Wedding and Osama Bin Laden.

The season has started and as everyone celebrated the Royal Wedding, we were setting up for one of our own lavish wedding celebrations!

We had the pleasure of working on an amazing rehearsal dinner at the DaVinci Restaurant . The restaurant was the perfect setting as the amazing couple prepared to tie the knot with both their families and some of their closest friends. Marc Hall from Marc Hall Designs createsd a spring oasis incorporating bright greens and oranges surrounded by citrus fruits.

Music Management provided an amazing DJ that kept guests danced the night away and singing their favorite karaoke tunes! The talented David Tucker captured all of the special moments throughout the night.

Also joining us was Anna Neiman, Boston based bridal designer, quickly sketched as she saw the first glimpse of Katherine’s dress. Anna was already on the phone ordering lace and fabric before the couple could say “I WILL” in attempts to replicate the lace detailing and elegant features. It looks as though we can expect brides to bring back tradition: simple, classic, timeless; People are going to get excited about the tradition that goes with a wedding.

We are ready for our Rehearsal Dinner this Friday and obsessed with the cute favors we designed! The couple is an adorable match, mixing cultures from the South West and North.

For the bride it's tortilla chips and Arizona Cowboy salsa and for the groom it's a personalized Canadien's chocolate hockey puck (sorry Bruins' fans)! We wrapped them up in a rustic burlap bag and had "Sweet & Hot" tags tied to the handles.

The favors have a rustic look and incorporate a personal touch from the bride and groom. This is a great way to thank your guests for being a part of your special day. They are also a great idea for mini welcome bags to greet your guest's staying in hotels for your wedding weekend! We are sure all of the guests are going to LOVE these sweet and spicy treats!

The Boston Bridal Lounge has been meeting tons of newly engaged couples since their opening on January 11, 2011. As we enter Spring and of course wedding season, it was time to bring in new decor and a lighter color palate. The masterminds behind the BBL, Kerri Esposito-Bruneau and Eleni Granas, wanted the decor to create the ambiance of summer romance. By using white, light blues, peaches, and soft pinks all three tables were reworked to show new design trends and tablescapes for any upcoming Spring and Summer events. We worked closely with Table Toppers and Be Our Guest to put together an eloquent table with some modern flare. Check it out!

Brunch is a favorite meal of most people because it is acceptable to eat both breakfast and lunch at the same time! Brunch is typically casual and relaxed so you can make easy finger foods and have a few simple cocktails.

Tips for Entertaining at Home!

Even if you are just having the same family or friends you always have over change up your table's decor! You can get inexpensive tablecloths and cloth napkins at any of your local HomeGoods, Bed Bath and Beyond or Pier 1. Jazz it up with some fresh flowers from the florist or even from your own garden! TRENDSPOTTER: Vintage!

Is it due to the Royal Wedding or is everyone just loving everything vintage these days? In our opinion this trend has been coming on strong for awhile and is now taking off. From glassware to wedding veils, everywhere we turn we arethe old classic style. It's not just attire or decor, we've seen a vintage style emerge in photos, video and music.

If you'reon the guest list for any of these spectacular events, expect to see colored depression glass, floral china plates with scalloped edges, ornate flatware and lots of lace. A tea course incorpoarting sterling silver pots and an eclectic mix of cups is the rage showcasing finger sandwiches and mini desserts. Bird cages and mason jars are easily transformed into antiqued centerpieces. A lot of the antique decor bring on a sense of nostalgia and creates an 'at home' feel.

What we love about vintage is it doesn't have to match; try different pieces together and you'll be amazed at the looks you can create. And who knows who has once used these gorgeous patterns in the past.

A meal fit for Royalty; What will be the featured cuisine on April 29?

The website is live and we're keeping up with all things Royal. We have been tracking down every little detail of planning. One thing no one has really discussed in detail: what will be on the menu for this Royal affair? We got the scoop from one of the interviews with the former royal chef of Princess Diana, Darren McGrady. He thinks there will be a mix of traditional English food with a mix of some of Kate and William's favorites.

Right after the ceremony the guests follow William and Kate's horse-drawn carriage to Buckingham Palace for a traditional wedding breakfast reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II. The menu at the breakfast consists of champagne, canapés and h'ors d'oeuvres. The famous chef is guessing there they will be serving mini sausage rolls, smoked salmon, paté, just a few of the couple's favorite royal appetizers!

In many other articles recapping the wedding breakfast of Charles and Diana it was stated that they had "a menu of fresh strawberries and cream, brill in lobster sauce, and supreme de voilaille Princess de Galles which is chicken breast stuffed with a fine lamb mousse." We expect William and Kate to select a less "stuffy" menu and opt for something more modern and fun.
After their first official kiss on the balcony around 1:30 p.m., It's on to the big evening reception. As with the breakfast, it's our guess William and Kate will incorporate a more modern flare - traditional and extravagant as royal weddings in the past. The dinner will be more causal with all of the closest friends and family members (the owner of Kate's local pub will be in attendance). The menu is expected to include a mixture of high-end British cuisine along with William's favorite meat pie.

As far as dessert, English wedding cakes are traditionally fruit cakes containing nuts, raisins, dried fruit and brandy, but we expect something different will be on the menu for William and Kate...stay tuned. We'll also be presenting design ideas for the gorgeous Royal menu card that will become a keepsake classic.

TRENDSPOTTER: Lavender and Wintergreen for Spring weddings

We're looking for a little spring amongst this winter wonderland! If you're planning a spring wedding and want to incorporate bright and fun spring colors look no further than the bold and fun palette of Lavender and Wintergreen .

50th Birthday Party at the Ames Hotel!

Happy 50th Charlie! What a party at the swanky Ames Hotel in Boston. It's the perfect setting for an intimate, chic party. The second floor bar feels like you are in a sheek and stylish, upscale living room. They have big dark leather chairs, an eclectic mix of furniture that works and a cozy fireplace.

We transformed the space into a dark, masculine retreat with sat chocolate brown draping and amber uplighting to accetn the windows. To complement their family style service, we brought in a fruitwood farm-style dinner table with matching benches. Lotus Designs helped create our vision with suculents and fiddle heads.

The honored guest of the party is a Delta pilot so we made that our theme and flew with it! All of the invitations and menu cards resembled plane tickets. The doorway was framed with two arrangements filled with branches and hanging votives and airplanes. Check out the Reese's peanut butter cake from Cakes to Remember - really fun.

Sneak Peak! Bloomingdale's Registry

We hope 2011 is off to a great start for everyone! We're busy planning winter events and other fun projects - updates to follow (wait tell you see the office redesign we are doing)!

We are lucky to have the opportunity to design and decorate the two tables in the Bloomingdale's Registry at Chestnut Hill. The tables showcase Blolomingdales product and give couple ideas for designing their table and home. Picking out housewares that you are going to use for the next10-15 years can be somewhat overwhelming, but the staff at the Registry is amazing to work with and really simplifies the process.

We chose two completely different designs for the tables. One design features glitzy black and silver and is more appropriate for a Saturday night dinner party (think champagne and chocolate). The other table has different shades of green and is more French Country/Sunday brunch inspired.

We are so lucky to be working with John LaRoche of BlueGuava on the flowers - we can't wait to see them!!

Design concepts are created specific to each client which translates into each and every one of our events being completely personal. While both of these weddings were planned and created in the same wedding season, they are completely different and reflective of each of the different couples.

We've been busy with the holidays and the opening of the Boston Bridal Lounge...more to come on that! But we had to share some amazing photos from a wedding we had the pleasure of coordinating and designing at the Contemporary Art in Boston. The wedding was a mixture of Asian and English cultures with guests traveling from all over the world.

A huge thanks goes out to Allegro photography for capturing the photos - Jo and Dave are mega talented - we love you guys!

Everyone wants to set the bar high and add a WOW factor at their wedding! We've seen many extras that put a twist on the traditional wedding. Popular extras you've probably seen are candy bars, desert and ice cream bars, to-go boxes filled with late night snacks.

Why not add a clown or magician for the kids (okay or adults). A belly dancer can liven up a cocktail hour, caricature artists adds humour or dance lessons are a great way to get everyone out of their seats.
