SD Events along with other industry professionals are coming to the aid of brides who are left without a wedding dress, florist or venue in the wake of hurricane Sandy. We want to help. We've created a Wedding Warriors Facebook page for anyone needing help. We are also monitoring other sites to help answer questions and provide support.
Here are a couple resources. Please post if there is something you need or if you are a vendor and have somethig to offer.

L’Shanah Tovah!
L’Shanah
Tovah! That’s Hebrew for “Happy New Year”, which we say in honor of the Jewish
New Year on Sunday. Instead of toasting lots of bubbly, this celebration
involves a big spread of food, Manischewitz wine and eating symbolic foods such
as apples dipped in honey. Dipping the apple in honey on Rosh Hashanah is said
to symbolize the desire for a sweet new year. Here is to a sweet new year!
Happy 5773!

Would you rent your wedding dress?
A growing trend that had us saying, is this for real? Brides renting their wedding dress, jewelery, or even wedding cake? Yes, it is happening.
Can't afford that $12,000 gown? What about renting it? At first we were confused because what bride doesn’t want their own dress on their special day. However, for some this makes sense and gives them access to a dress they wouldn't normally be able to afford. Check out One Night Affair that has capitalized on this trend.
We've all heard of Styrofoam layers for cakes, but completely fake cakes? Yes, it's happening and can cost $275 to rent vs. $1400 for the real thing. Many provide the option of partial or fully fake cakes and then sheet cakes (which are a lot less expensive) are cut and served to guests who are none the wiser. It will leave you wondering the next time you are at a wedding; is it real or fake?
Whether it's your dress, cake, jewelry or even flowers, the options for renting are growing. So, would you consider renting these items for your wedding?

London Does It Again: Opening Ceremony
London Olympics Logo |
Danny Boyle, Artistic Director of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, said: ‘Our Isles of Wonder salutes and celebrates the exuberant creativity of the British genius in an Opening Ceremony that we hope will be as unpredictable and inventive as the British people.’
London Bridge |
We believe that the three hour ceremony did just that! In different segments viewers got a chance to witness various milestones throughout the United Kingdom history, and other symbolic moments that have made the country what it is today.
One of our favorite moments from the opening ceremony was watching the Queen, or at least what was supposed to be the Queen jump out of the helicopter with James Bond!
We hope you enjoyed watching the opening ceremony and the start of the games this weekend. What games are you most excited to watch?

What Are You Registering For?
Gift registries are a big part of the wedding planning process and have even found there way to milestone events such as birthdays and anniversaries. While many find it strange to "request" particular gifts, it is helpful for guests who want to get you something that you actually want. You also want to think about your interests and hobbies. While something may seem weird, it's possible to register for almost anything in today's high tech world.
-organizing supplies: everything is easy when it is organized, plain and simple. Storage containers are usually never a thought in a registry, but in today's society newly weds move at least once after they get married.
-china: the more, the merrier. Register for more china then you think you need because families grow in size, they move (causing things to break easier), and china also can get discontinued!
-bedding: who doesn't love a bed with comfy sheets? Couples should register for sheets that are appropriate for all seasons, especially when living in New England! Once you've slept in a bed with flannel sheets on a cold winter night, we promise you will never go back!
-knives: many couples have it together when registering for kitchen appliances, except for knives. In general, you are cutting a piece of food at least two to three times a day, might as well have a sharp knife to do so!
-seasonal items: think outside of the season you are getting married in. Register for items that cover all four seasons. For example, if you are getting married in the summer, think about registering for things that would be appropriate for the holiday season. Especially those special holiday plates if you entertain the family.
Thinking about registering for something more nontraditional? While not for everyone, these sites provide some unique and creative ideas for setting up your registry.

Whatever your needs, have fun registering and remember, it might seem silly to register for a blender, but you will probably find yourself using it for many years.

All in the Family
It is always a pleasure when we get to work with clients again and this is one of those special opportunities. SD Events first had the honor to plan Emily's amazing Bat Mitzvah at the Four Seasons in 2009.
We were thrilled when we got the chance to work with the family again for their son Aaron's Bar Mitzvah this past May. As if things couldn't get better, we got to plan a thrilling rock and roll party at Gillette Stadium!
All our best to this fantastic family, and of course to all the wonderful professionals we got to work with - it was an amazing team!
